Community Compost Project

Community Compost Program

In an effort to relocalize our nutrient cycle in DuPage County, our nonprofit has begun a program to collect community compost. Anyone may drop off the kind of compost we accept (outlined below).

We are building soil that will be applied to the Sustain DuPage Garden beds so that our fruit, nuts, tubers, and veggies will be packed with a rich macro and micro-nutrient profile!

Thank you for your contribution!

We are happy to provide this pilot program as a free service at this time.

Where?

Here is a link that will get you to our Garden.

From there, head Northwest a few paces until you see the wooden pallet compost bins.

How?

Community Compost Project

If you are dropping off food scraps or non-sprayed grass clippings, please drop into the first bin (at the far right) marked with a #1 and a sign that says “feed the earth” with arrows directing you to drop your compost in the first bin.

free leaf drop off

If you are dropping off bags of leaves, you may leave the whole bag behind or you may dump the leaves onto the staging platform shown in the photo here. Please do not dump directly into the pallet bins (we need to shred leaves before putting them on the compost pile!)

When?

The Theosophical Society Grounds (upon which our garden is located) is only open while the sun is up- please respect this rule.
