At present, DuPage County has remarkably low levels of food literacy. Many DuPagers do not know how to grow, cook, or preserve food. This means we are at great risk of starvation in the event of an emergency. If we believe what 99% of the world’s smartest scientists are projecting, climate disruption is going to disrupt our highly consolidated food supply. If we believe what the Pentagon and United Nations assert, the number one correlated factor for social unrest is the security of a nation’s food supply. It is imperative that we train DuPagers in how to grow, cook, and preserve their own food- for the sustainable stability of our communities.
