Community Cooking

Sharing traditions by preparing meals from local, seasonal and sustainably grown foods!

More About the Mission:

Cooking food in community contributes to sustainability in many ways. It improves the health of our minds, our bodies, and our planet.

Being connected to our ecosystem by harvesting and preparing foods firsthand can be like a kind of meditation promoting mental wellbeing.

By knowing that the food we are eating was grown organically, without pesticides, we can ensure our bodies are being nourished.

Cooking with foods that are grown with regenerative agriculture supports the security of biodiversity, the building of topsoil, and the protection of local waterways from industrial chemical runoff common to other kinds of farming.

Where Does the Community Cooking Take Place?

We have hosted our community cooking events at multiple venues, beginning in the homes of volunteers. As we outgrew that chapter, we began hosting at the commercial kitchen of the Theosophical Society near our communal garden. This summer we hope to also host events at the First United Methodist Church of Glen Ellyn and other venues as they become available as well.

What Kind of Foods Do You Prepare?

All meals are vegetarian, with vegan and gluten free options available. We aim to source as much home-grown produce as possible from our Sustain DuPage Garden. The menu for a community cooking night usually reflects the cuisine from different regions across this beautiful planet Earth.

A suggested donation of $12 is requested to cover the costs of kitchen rental and supplies.
