What is a Seed Lending Library?

A Seed Lending Library is like a regular library, except instead of loaning out books, they loan out seeds for growing plants (or sometimes even starter cultures for fungus/yeast!)

Why is it important to inventory Seed Lending Libraries?

Seed heritage is one of our greatest tools in battling the dangers of climate change to protect our society’s food security. Some varieties of crops are more drought-tolerant, cold-hardy, pest-resistant, etc. In the past 80 years, we’ve lost 93% of our seed varieties. By saving seeds on a local level, we are creating food varieties which are adapted to our local region’s unique climate and rhythm. Seed saving also reduces barriers for beginning farmers by greatly reducing startup costs.
