Native Rescue

Saving and propagating our local native plants!

1) Rescue

All across DuPage County everyday some of the last remaining native plant species, who have lived here for thousands of years, are being quietly annihilated by development. THIS SHOULD NOT OCCUR. The Sustain DuPage Native Rescue will work with you to ensure that plants are rescued before development. If you know a site that is about to be destroyed- please contact us! Even if development pressure is far off, we’d like to save the genetic heritage of DuPage by also collecting seeds and/or cuttings to bring the genetics of unprotected species residing on private properties to safe sites that are protected. We are developing a rapid response team who can mobilize within 24 hours to rescue native species from local extinction- please contact us with any leads.

Propagation

Once a plant has been rescued, we will bring it back to our nursery to be cared for and grown out in our native restoration.

Redistribution

Once there is enough growing stock of a rescued plant within our native nursery, we will redistribute these species to the public for a donation to Sustain DuPage to defray our costs and build the Sustain DuPage mission.
